Without a clue in London
The BBC report that the Metropolitan Police made more than 170 000 "terror" stops in London in 2008. This is more than double the previous year. The Police spokesman said, "The threat to London from terrorism is real and serious and these powers are a vital tactic in our counter-terrorism strategy." mmmm...only 65 of the "terror" stops lead to arrests for terror offenses...the conviction rate is not given, although it is probably quite low. (remember, taking a photograph of a policeman may constitute a "terror offense") You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to deduce that the risk of terrorism in the UK is very low, and the police and politicians are fear-mongering (remember the fictitious Iraqi weapons of mass destruction and "sexed-up" report of their existence).

This is unbelievable! If you have the right equipment you can use the US government military satellite network (for free).

More video footage of police hitting G20 protesters
More video footage of police beating unarmed civillians at the G20 meeting in London. This follows the death of Ian Tomlinson, who was violently shoved to the ground / hit from behind (?) by police, while walking home after a day of work. Initially the "powers that be" blamed heart failure, however a second examination concluded that he died from internal bleeding. The people who were shoved and beaten (and survived) can be thankful that UK police do not carry guns.

Dutch free Yemeni captives from pirates...then free the pirates
Dutch commandos recently freed a group of fishermen who had been taken hostage by Somali pirates...and then released the pirates as well...as NATO does not have a "detainment policy". What happened to "walking the plank"?

You talking to me!
Austin, Texas: After a cop broke a deaf citizen's nose and received a 2 day suspension (deaf citizen receiving $50 000 for his pains), Sgt. Pedro Criado, of the Fort Worth Police Department shared this pearl of wisdom, "This isolated incident doesn't reflect the professional quality service that the Fort Worth Police Department provides to the citizens of Fort Worth," ...I should hope not!

California may ban black cars
California is thinking of banning black cars. The reason is that black cars get hotter than other cars and then require more energy to cool them down. Yes...really. White cars, of course, will be fine. I suspect a racist car-nspiracy.

Teacher: "Are those aspirin? Take of your clothes!"
Arizona, USA: 6 years ago a 13 year-old girl was forced to strip as her teachers suspected her of being in possession of headache tablets. Yes..really. They did not find any aspirin but they did provoke legal action. Judge Kim McLane Wardlaw said, "It does not require a constitutional scholar to conclude that a nude search of a 13-year-old child is an invasion of constitutional rights...More than that,it is a violation of any known principle of human dignity." (U.S. Court of Appeals 9th circuit). If a supermarket owner or a priest subjected a child to a strip-search, they would be at risk of serious jail-time. The same should happen to these teachers.

Dalai Lama is barred from Johannesburg
"South Africa has barred the Dalai Lama from a peace conference in Johannesburg this week, hoping to maintain good relations with China." This was the second most emailed story at the International Herald Tribune over a 24-hour period on 24/3/2009. The article goes on to mention that the a number of Nobel Peace Prize winners will be boycotting the "Peace" conference. ANC allies, the South African Communist Party however backed the move. (Un)welcome to South Africa!
